North’s Harvey, Wells just want AFL win

North Melbourne stars Brent Harvey and Daniel Wells say AFL milestones will mean little to them on Sunday as they seek to help the Kangaroos recover from two devastating losses.

Harvey, who will play his 350th match, said the round eight after-the-siren loss to West Coast was hard to take, but Sunday’s late capitulation to Adelaide from five goals up was even worse.

“It’s pretty heartbreaking to lose a game,” Harvey told reporters.

“But to lose them by one or two points for the fourth time this year it really hurts.

“We’ve just got to make sure we’re doing everything right.

“It’s always hard to lose after the siren.

“But being five goals up with 13 minutes to go digs pretty deep.

“As a leadership group we’ve got to take responsibility for that.”

Harvey said every player had to take ownership of the defeats and stand up and be counted this week.

He said thoughts on his milestone would be put aside until after his career.

“To be honest, the situation we’re in right now, I couldn’t care if it was my first game or 350th. I just want to win,” he said.

“We’re playing some great footy, I just want to win the game.”

Wells echoed that sentiment.

“I’m a bit like Brent, the way we’ve played recently, it doesn’t really worry me much at this stage that it’s my 200th,” he said.

“It sounds a bit funny, but we just want to win.”
