Debutant Courteney Munn booted four goals as the North Melbourne Kangaroos rolled reigning premiers the Western Bulldogs by 31 points, underlining their status at the AFLW team to beat.
The Kangaroos, one of two clubs added to the fledging competition this year, won 8.5 (53) to 3.4 (22) on Friday night in Launceston and are unbeaten after three rounds.
North were too strong across the ground, blowing the game open with five unanswered goals in the second term.
Two of those came from Munn, who picked up the game’s opener and her second minutes later via a strong overhead kick.
The 20-year-old Southern Saints recruit returned late with two stellar soccer-style efforts, one from a tight angle, to extinguish any glimmer of a Bulldogs comeback.
Kangaroos skipper and reigning best and fairest Emma Kearney and Jenna Bruton were outstanding in their first match against their former club.
Bruton had a game-high 21 touches, while Kearney picked up 17 disposals.
After a goal-less first term, the Kangaroos flexed their muscle in the second to open up a 33-3 lead.
Aisling Utri breathed some life into the Bulldogs when claiming her side’s first goal in the third term.
Katie Brennan then reduced the margin to 17 points with a snap early in the fourth quarter but the Kangaroos rallied to snuff out any chance of a comeback.
Monique Conti worked hard for the Bulldogs and finished with 17 possessions.
North Melbourne, who thrashed Carlton by 36 points in round one and beat the GWS Giants by 25 points in round two, are now a game clear atop the table.
The previously unbeaten Bulldogs are 2 and 1.
