North keeps Goldstein from Cats’ clutches

North Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein has shunned interest from Geelong to re-sign with the Kangaroos, in a huge coup for the AFL club.

The table-topping Cats chased hard after Goldstein to solve their ruck depth by offering a four-year-deal, but the 31-year-old All Australian wanted to stay a one-club player.

Goldstein signed a new three-year deal, saying his love for the Kangaroos won him over.

“I had a lot to weigh up when the season finished, but ultimately my love for North, my teammates and the people here won me over,” Goldstein said in a statement.

“I’ve always said I wanted to see out my career at Arden St and be a one-club player, so I’m thrilled to be able to do that now.”

The 234-game player, who averaged a career-high 17 possessions this season as the Kangaroos finished 12th, believes he has plenty more in the tank.

“I played every game this year and ran out the season well,” said Goldstein, who debuted for North back in 2008.

“I feel the best I ever have in terms of both my body and my mind and can’t wait for what the future holds for our club.

“I feel like I can still go to another level with my game and impact the scoreboard a little bit more and become a more dangerous proposition when I push forward.”
