AFL trade period continues to be a show about nothing.

The third day of the trade window featured Geelong’s Allen Christensen making a shock request and no shortage of speculation.

But after yet more wrangling on Wednesday, none of the 18 clubs have agreed on a single deal.

“So much talk but no action. Trade week needs to be cut from 2 weeks to 1,” Port Adelaide veteran Kane Cornes posted on Twitter.

Christensen, one of the Cats’ brightest young stars who had a season to forget due to a persistent back problem, wants to join Brisbane or Gold Coast.

Christensen’s manager Tim Hazell explained it was a “decision taken purely for personal reasons”.

“He simply feels that at 23 he wants a fresh start to his football elsewhere,” Hazell said in a statement.

The Cats released a statement confirming the news.

“The club is considering its position in relation to Allen’s request,” it siad.

Geelong, who are set to recruit retired Melbourne ruck-forward Mitch Clark, could be one of the most active clubs in the post-season frenzy.

Western Bulldogs are looking to pry defender Tom Lonergan away from the Cats, while speedster Travis Varcoe has a handful of suitors to consider.

Brisbane have upped their offer for Collingwood gun Dayne Beams, but draft picks No.5 and 25 are unlikely to satisfy the Magpies.

Collingwood have repeatedly stated they want a ready-made player to replace Beams.

“We’ve looked at maybe offering our second-round pick and doing some things with that. There’ll be some swaps of picks later on as well,” Lions chief executive Greg Swann told AFL Trade Radio.

“25 might go somewhere else to try to get another player, but at the moment we’re trying to deal directly with Collingwood.”

Meanwhile, North Melbourne football manager Geoff Walsh dismissed the suggestion that signing free agents Shaun Higgins and Jarrad Waite led to the exit of Levi Greenwood.

“Salary cap projections aren’t done on the back of a scrap bit of paper the night before trade week starts,” Walsh told Trade Radio.

“These are projections that are done 12-24 months out.

“No one’s been squeezed out because of the people who have arrived at North Melbourne.”

Greenwood has requested a trade to Collingwood.
