More club members to see AFL grand final

The AFL will make an extra 5000 grand final tickets available to members of the competing clubs this year, but that comes with a substantial price hike.

Standing room tickets will rise from $150 last year to $176.50 this September, an 18 per cent increase, while the top price for seated tickets has risen from $295 last year to $390, up by 32 per cent.

The AFL say the price rise was needed to compensate the non-competing clubs, who will have their corporate ticket allocation stripped back.

Those tickets will instead go to members of the competing clubs, whose allocation will rise from 25,000 to 30,000.

“Approximately 70 per cent of people at this year’s grand final will be either a club member, AFL member or MCC member,” the AFL’s general manager of commercial operations Darren Birch said.

In another change, all corporate packages will be sold through the AFL or its clubs this year, rather than distributing some through third party on-sellers.
