Mitchell jab-jibe issue closed: Hird

Essendon coach James Hird is keen to move on from the furore created by Sam Mitchell’s mock injection gesture.

Hird described Mitchell’s actions in taunting his players by pretending to inject himself, a clear reference to the 2012 supplements program, as “naive” and “idiotic” in the aftermath of the Bombers’ loss to the Hawks at the MCG.

However, Hird said on Tuesday he wasn’t surprised the AFL did not take any action against the former Hawthorn skipper over the incident.

“I think Sam, from my recollection, apologised and we’re happy with that,” Hird said.

“So from that point of view it’s done.”
