Fremantle forward Shane Yarran is free to play this weekend despite pleading guilty to two charges stemming from an incident in Leederville last month.

Yarran was fined $800 by the Perth Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to one count of disorderly behaviour in public, and one count of failing to obey a move-on notice.

The 27-year-old has also been ordered by Fremantle to undertake an ongoing counselling program, as well as volunteer work with a charity.

The Dockers say they are also considering handing Yarran a fine, but they won’t ban him from any games.

Yarran, who was released in jail in 2013 after serving time for burglary, is yet to play for the Dockers since being taken with pick No.61 in the 2015 national draft.

Knee and calf issues have restricted Yarran to just three WAFL appearances this season.

But he was back on the field and closing in on an AFL debut before his latest run-in with police.

Despite the setback, Yarran is still a strong chance to debut for the Dockers this year if he can string some WAFL games together.

The 185cm forward will line up for Peel Thunder against West Perth on Saturday.

Yarran was the WAFL’s leading goalkicker last season, and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon is keen to see the mature-age recruit in Dockers colours at some point this year.

“He’s progressing really well. His commitment to training has been exceptional,” Lyon said on Thursday.

“He’s played the last couple of games and we’ve been conservative with his time.

“The aim is to expose all our players. And certainly there’s been a lot of hype around Shane.

“But there’s a big step from the WAFL to the AFL. At some point we’d like to test to the hype.”
