Preview:

Fremantle get another chance to give their percentage an almighty boost when they take on Melbourne at the “G” on Sunday.

Last week the Dockers annihilated the GWS Giants by 113 points and another win of the same magnitude here, which is definitely on the cards, could see Fremantle move to third spot on the ladder.

They’ve gone about their business in good style all year have Fremantle and with their remaining games after this one against Port (in W.A.) and St. Kilda, they should head into the finals with a full head of steam.

Aside from the 122 point drumming handed to them by North in round 18, the Demons, although still not winning, have produced spirited performances against both Lions and last week, the Gold Coast Suns.

That being said, they have conceded an average of 122 points per game this year whilst Fremantle concede 69.

With Fremantle hungry for another big kill, this 70.5 line could be in danger, especially when given that, in round 9 this year, Freo won by 90 (130 – 40).

Watts unsure of staying with AFL’s Demons

Melbourne’s Jack Watts says he needs to be satisfied the battling AFL club is set to improve before he signs on for next season.

Taken at No.1 in the 2008 national draft, Watts has played in just 18 wins in his 70 AFL games across five seasons.

The 22-year-old has put off a decision on whether he will stick with the underperforming Demons until the end of the season.

While his manager Paul Connors said recently Watts was waiting until Melbourne appointed a new coach, the player said there was more to his decision than that.

“There’s a lot of things I’m going to weigh up,” Watts told the Nine Network’s AFL Footy Show on Thursday night.

“Obviously you want the club to be moving forward and on the way up, to start winning some games.”

When it was suggested the only way the Demons could go from here is up, Watts said he thought that three years ago, but it still hasn’t happened.

With only two wins so far this year, Melbourne are on track for their worst season in Watts’ time.

Asked whether he thought he would stay, Watts said: “That’s the decision I’ve got to make.

“At the end of the year I’ll weigh everything up.

“There’s no doubt I love the club and I love the boys.”

He said the appointment of chief executive Peter Jackson had given him some confidence in Melbourne’s future, as he had been very impressive since joining the club in April.
