Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric is set to miss a Friday night date with Carlton after being served a one-week ban for striking.
The important Tiger tall caught GWS youngster Jack Steele in the head with his elbow as the midfielder looked to challenge a rucking contest in their round 14 AFL clash on Saturday.
While Maric and Bombers defender Mark Baguley, also handed a one-week ban for striking, are likely to miss round 15, Power forward Jay Schulz and Giants midfielder Toby Greene have escaped suspension.
Schulz’ ferocious tackle on Sydney’s Ted Richards knocked out the Swans defender but the match review panel finding the tackle was “not unreasonable”.
The review statement said as “the tackle was undertaken in one continuous motion, with no secondary action” there were no grounds for punishment, even though Richards’ head hit the ground.
GWS coach Leon Cameron is unlikely to be pleased with Greene’s $1500 fine, backing his player after the match despite footage catching him spitting in the direction of former teammate Anthony Miles.
Cameron said he would be very surprised if there was any malicious intent from Greene, claiming the pair to be great mates.
In the same match, Tigers captain Trent Cotchin was handed a $1000 fine for a late spoiling effort that collected the head of young Giant Zac Williams.
The ensuing melee was a more expensive exercise for the expansion club, with GWS leaders Callan Ward, Adam Treloar and Cam McCarthy sharing in $3500 of fines.
Jake Batchelor will also pay $1000 for his part in the 20-strong second-quarter fight.
Baguley was handed his one-week ban for lashing out at St Kilda teenager Jack Lonie behind play, striking him in the head.

The AFL match review panel handed out fines to Port Adelaide’s Matthew Broadbent for bumping injured Swans midfielder Luke Parker, Collingwood midfielder Travis Varcoe for front-on contact with Hawk star Cyril Rioli and Eagle forward Mark LeCras for a low-impact strike of Melbourne defender Neville Jetta.
Lion Darcy Gardiner and serial offender Hayden Ballantyne were also fined for wrestling each other in Fremantle’s win over Brisbane.
