Magpies await news on injured AFL trio

Collingwood are sweating on medical assessments of star trio Jamie Elliott, Daniel Wells and Tyson Goldsack ahead of their Queen’s Birthday clash against Melbourne.

All appear highly unlikely to appear in the public holiday match after suffering injuries in the Pies’ fighting win over Fremantle.

Elliott, who missed all of last year with a back injury, didn’t play his first game this season until round four due to an ankle injury suffered in February.

“It felt a little bit worse,” Elliott told Channel Seven of his latest ankle injury.

“It happened the same way … it kind of got rolled then landed on but until we get the scans we won’t know.

“It is frustrating but I’ve had this injury before. It’s not going to be much and I’ll hopefully be back to my best.”

The injured trio remained behind in Perth after the win over the Dockers, with Elliott wearing a moon boot on his left foot on arrival in Melbourne on Monday.

Wells suffered a calf injury in the third quarter, with his latest setback continuing a torrid start to his career with the Pies.

The 32-year-old played 243 games with North Melbourne before switching to Collingwood after last season as a free agent on a three-year deal.

By his own admission he didn’t arrive at his new club in peak condition and was slowed by a calf injury suffered in the pre-season.

Wells didn’t make his debut in black and white until round five and now appears set for another lengthy stint on the sidelines.

Goldsack was lauded by coach Nathan Buckley after he played out the game with an injured right shoulder.

The injury outlook for all three will become clearer on Tuesday after they undergo scans.
