Lonergan accepts one-game AFL ban

Essendon midfielder Sam Lonergan will miss his club’s AFL match against Gold Coast on Saturday after accepting a one-game ban for rough conduct against Port Adelaide’s Travis Boak. The Bombers’ win over the Power came at a high cost, with Lonergan one of four players now out of action. David Hille, David Myers and Nathan Lovett-Murray were all injured during Saturday’s game. The tribunal will not sit on Tuesday night after all the players charged from the first eight games of the Easter round decided to take early pleas. The match review panel handed out $13,800 in fines to eight Collingwood and Richmond players for Saturday night’s halftime melee at the MCG. Tigers defender Alex Rance was penalised $1800 for instigating the melee and team-mate Jake King was hit with a $3000 fine. West Coast hard man Beau Waters accepted a reprimand for rough conduct against Melbourne co-captain Jack Grimes, while Carlton’s Mitch Robinson and Brisbane opponent Jack Redden were fined for wrestling each other.
