Lions to challenge Andrews’ AFL ban

Brisbane will challenge the one-game ban offered to key defender Harris Andrews at the AFL Tribunal.

Harris was offered the suspension after being cited for striking North Melbourne forward Nick Larkey in Saturday night’s fixture.

But the Lions have informed the AFL they will contest the charge at the tribunal.

Harris doesn’t risk a longer suspension if found guilty by the tribunal but is bidding to be cleared to face Hawthorn in Saturday’s finals-shaping encounter in Launceston.

The influential backman was reported by field umpire Andrew Stephens for striking.

There was no broadcast vision of the behind-play incident but it was captured by footage taken from behind the goals.

Andrews was penalised a free kick when he appeared to collect Larkey’s throat with a forearm in the first quarter the Lions’ 12-point win at the Gabba.

The AFL’s match review officer Michael Christian assessed the charge as intentional conduct with low impact and high contact.
