Lions re-sign Maguire, Bewick to AFL deals

Defender Matt Maguire and youngster Rohan Bewick have both signed contract extensions with the Brisbane Lions.

Maguire, 28, has signed a one-year deal with the Lions after establishing himself in the AFL club’s backline since his switch from St Kilda at the end of 2009.

Bewick, 22, has added two years to his deal after making 16 appearances for the Lions in 2012 – his second season with club after being recruited from West Perth in the WAFL.

The pair are the latest of several players to sign new deals with the Lions including vice-captain Jed Adcock, veteran Simon Black and youngsters Ryan Lester, Claye Beams and Josh Green.

“There’s a belief within the group and we’re united in our focus moving forward,” Maguire said.

“I’m looking forward to sticking around to hopefully be part of the success that I know is not far around the corner.”
