Former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett says he has been approached to become chairman of embattled AFL club Melbourne.
Kennett, who was previously Hawthorn Football Club president, said he was approached as recently as two weeks ago to take on the job.
“I have been approached in recent times to do it. To go in and help Melbourne, I’d do that,” Kennett said on Fairfax Radio on Thursday.
“Melbourne is a strong brand, it represents our state.
“It will survive, but it needs a winning culture … and it needs good governance, it doesn’t have any of that.”
The Demons have had a tough year on and off the field with constant speculation about the future of coach Mark Neeld.
In May, the club appointed Peter Jackson as its CEO on an interim basis following the sacking of Cameron Schwab.
The Demons lost by 95 points to Hawthorn on Sunday, their seventh loss by a margin of 60 points or more in the opening 10 rounds.
