Judd admits AFL offences a poor look

Carlton captain Chris Judd admits the fact that he has been suspended for more than one incident in his AFL career reflects poorly on him.

But the two-time Brownlow Medallist says he is too busy concentrating on getting the most out of his career right now to worry about what his legacy might be when he retires.

Judd is serving a four-match suspension for last weekend’s chicken wing grapple on North Melbourne’s Leigh Adams.

Previously in his career, he served a three-match ban for pushing at the face of then-Brisbane midfielder Michael Rischitelli, a case that became more notorious when he joked he was searching the Lion’s head for a pressure point.

He had escaped suspension on a charge of eye-gouging then-Hawthorn hardman Campbell Brown several years earlier, after which Brown later admitted to lying to the tribunal to clear Judd.

“There have been a couple of brain fades,” Judd told the Seven Network on Saturday night when asked about his disciplinary record.

“I guess when you have more than one, it starts to reflect poorly on you.

“I can’t change the past, I can only live in the now and look forward to the future and that’s what I’m doing.”

Judd said after apologising to Adams over what he termed a regrettable incident and receiving his penalty, he was keen to move on.

He said he had given little thought to how history might weigh his glittering record of on-field achievement against the few notable on-field offences he had committed.

“To be honest, I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about legacies or things like that,” Judd said.

“I focus on the challenges that are right in front of me and, for the minute, that’s helping out off the field then getting right for Essendon in three weeks’ time.”
