GWS midfielder Josh Kelly suffered a sickening head knock in his side’s 38-point win over Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Saturday.
Second-game forward Jake Riccardi and Jeremy Cameron booted four goals apiece to lead their side to the 14.7 (91) to 8.5 (53) win.
The result ended the Giants’ two-game losing streak and kept them in touch with the top eight.
But Kelly’s injury soured the win.
The star midfielder was falling forward while tackling a Dockers player on the stroke of halftime when his head slammed into the knee of teammate Shane Mumford.
Kelly’s head snapped back when contact was made, and he lay stunned for more than two minutes before being helped off the field by two trainers with a game-ending concussion.
“He was probably knocked out straight away. The concern is the blood out of the mouth,” Brisbane great Jonathan Brown said as part of the Fox Sports commentary team.
“Speaking from experience, whenever you have blood in the mouth there’s a big concern of a potential break in the jaw of some region.”
GWS forward Toby Greene could be in strife for his off-the-ball elbow that winded Reece Conca.
Riccardi booted three goals in the third term to kill off Fremantle’s fightback, while Lachie Whitfield (31 disposals) and Stephen Coniglio (24) collected plenty of the ball.
Cameron (18 disposals, eight marks, 4.2) bounced back to form with his biggest goal haul of the year.
Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe was restricted to just 11 disposals, with some of the treatment dished out to him off the ball questionable.
Dockers midfielder David Mundy (20 disposals, two goals) produced a hot third quarter to give his side a chance, but it was quickly snuffed out by the Giants.
Cameron started the game like a man possessed after his commitment to the contest was questioned in the wake of last week’s loss to West Coast.
The 27-year-old booted two goals from two contested marks against Luke Ryan in the opening term to help set the tone for the match.
But Mundy booted two goals in as many minutes at the start of the third quarter to reduce the margin to 14 points, GWS looked in danger of being over-run.
But Riccardi helped stem the tide with a series of strong marks and three quick goals.
The 20-year-old was impressive in his debut against West Coast last week, but he looked like a bona fide star against the Dockers, with a big-pack mark in the third term the highlight.
