Jobe Watson remains the $5.00 favourite with online bookmaker sportsbet to win the Brownlow, but just as Sydney’s Josh Kennedy did last year, bolters such as Travis Boak, Daniel Hannebery and Hamish Hartlett are emerging as dark horses to take out the prestigious medal.
Boak has been the best backed out of the trio and has firmed from $150 at the start of the year to be equal sixth favourite at $14. Hannebery is also priced at $14 after starting the season at even bigger odds of $201, while Hartlett has also come in from $201, now into $23.
“Looks like there were a few Port fans who thought Boak and Hartlett were set for a big year. But Hannebery is the one the punters got on at big odds and having been best on ground the last two weeks, he is now well and truly one of the favourites,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson.
Gary Ablett remains second favourite but has drifted from $7.00 to $9.00, while Trent Cotchin is in the same boat after moving from $8.00 to $10.
In round 7 betting news, all of the early money has been on the Cats in the match of the round against Essendon. Geelong have firmed from $1.75 to $1.64 over the weekend, with the Bombers out from $2.00 to $2.25. More than double the money has been bet on Geelong at this stage.
