The first AFL player to be charged with staging may become the first fined for the offence.
Essendon forward Leroy Jetta faces match review panel scrutiny for taking a theatrical dive to earn a free kick – just a fortnight after he was put on notice for a similar incident.
Jetta was issued with a warning for staging in Essendon’s win over Richmond.
But television replays suggested Jetta may have done the same in falling in a tackle from Melbourne’s Joel Macdonald during the Bombers’ six-point loss to the Demons on Saturday night.
Jetta was tackled around the waist, but threw his head back although no contact was made there.
If the match review panel finds he has a case to answer, Jetta faces a $1600 fine – cut to $1200 with an early guilty plea.
Under current rules, players cannot be suspended for staging.
No player has yet been fined for the offence.
Geelong’s James Kelly and West Coast defender Beau Waters are also likely to come under panel scrutiny for high hits at the weekend.
Kelly collected Greater Western Sydney youngster Toby Greene in the head during their match at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.
And Waters cleaned up Brisbane midfielder Jack Redden in the Eagles’ two-point loss at the Gabba on Sunday.
St Kilda forward Stephen Milne is also likely to have a possible strike on Richmond’s Alex Rance examined.
Adelaide midfielder Bernie Vince was reported on match-day for an off-the-ball incident involving Fremantle’s Zac Clarke in the Crows’ win at Patersons Stadium on Saturday.
