Richmond have lost promising Irish rookie-lister John Heslin to homesickness.
The 19-year-old joined the AFL club late last year under the international rookie scheme.
Richmond had high hopes for the strongly-built 188cm youngster.
Heslin had an impressive sporting background, having been a good Gaelic footballer and hurler, as well as representing Ireland in under-age soccer teams.
But after struggling to cope with life away from home, he has returned to Ireland indefinitely, the Tigers said on Friday.
“It’s never easy for young players to relocate to a new country,” Richmond’s football general manager Craig Cameron said.
“John found that transition difficult and has experienced homesickness.
“We have worked hard to support John and will continue to do so, but we understand his decision to return home at this time.”
