Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL No.1 draft pick Jonathon Patton has had an injury scare three days before his scheduled senior debut against Richmond.
Teenager Patton limped off the ground towards the end of Wednesday’s training session at Sydney Showground Stadium.
He quickly applied an ice pack to his left thigh, with both Patton and assistant coach Mark Williams describing the problem as a cork, which at this stage isn’t expected to rule him out.
The 197cm tall key forward had the start of his AFL career delayed by knee surgery in Sweden last January.
It was a tough day for all three of the Giants’ key forwards paraded before the media prior to training.
Israel Folau, who has just come back from a hamstring strain, didn’t train and coach Kevin Sheedy said the league convert would have a fitness test on Saturday morning.
Sheedy rated Folau’s odds of playing against Richmond as 80-20.
Fellow forward and Rising Star nominee Jeremy Cameron finished the session with a bloodied nose.
