I’m no trade bait for Tippett: Redden

Speculation linking Jack Redden to a trade package for Adelaide star forward Kurt Tippett has been dismissed as just that by the Brisbane Lions young gun.

Trade bait rumours began swirling around South Australian-born Redden after the Lions joined the Gold Coast in the queue for the off-contract Tippett when the Crows match-winner appeared keen on a return to his home state Queensland.

Tippett’s management have since postponed contract talks until the end of the AFL season.

After Lions coach Michael Voss last week hinted that Redden would not be part of a trade, Redden was much more clear on the matter when asked on Wednesday.

“I don’t really buy into (the speculation) because I know it’s not happening,” Redden told reporters.

“I’ve heard it all. I’m pretty happy up here.

“I’ve signed on until the end of 2014, so I’m not moving home any time soon.

“I’m happy where the club’s going. I think there’s a bright future here as well so I’m staying around Brisbane.”

Redden said ignoring the rumours had been easy in the “family atmosphere” of the Lions.

“It doesn’t really affect my footy. I know what I’ve got to get on with,” he said.

The classy midfielder has been a standout in 2012 despite the Lions’ rollercoaster season, leading the club in disposals (25 per match) and clearances (5.2) while second in the AFL for tackles (136).

Despite missing the finals again, the Lions (13th; 9-12) have a chance to win three straight games for the first time since early 2010 when they line up against a free-falling Western Bulldogs at the Gabba on Sunday.

In their 2012 season finale, the Lions hope to condemn the Bulldogs to their 11th straight loss.

“It’d be great to finish off strong. It is pretty hard to get motivated considering we haven’t made the finals for a long time but we’re building towards more success down the track,” Redden said.
