The cavalry is on its way for Greater Western Sydney key forward Jeremy Cameron.
Giants coach Kevin Sheedy expects No.1 draft pick Jonathon Patton to finally make his AFL debut in their next match – the round-12 home game against Richmond.
Israel Folau should also return from a hamstring injury.
Cameron has been one of the highlights so far of the Giants’ debut season and he made a great start to Saturday’s game against Geelong.
But he has lacked support and star Cats fullback Matthew Scarlett shut him down in the second half.
Patton has overcome a knee injury at last and Sheedy expects him to play after next weekend’s bye.
Sheedy said it would literally mean they had two giants in attack – “actually, in structure”.
“He’ll have a bit more help, so that’s something we’re really looking forward to,” Sheedy said of Cameron.
“When you have the No.1 draft pick running out there at about six foot six, built like a mountain, it’s going to be pretty exciting.
“He just needs help, that’s all – at the moment, we have a couple of ruckmen down there running around as key forwards trying to help him.”
Sheedy, who made his name as a Richmond back-pocket, was at Etihad Stadium on Friday night to see the Tigers continue their emergence with a great win over St Kilda.
“I must admit, I was barracking for Richmond – I won’t be barracking for them in the next match. It’s going to be an absolute all-in war,” he said.
