Hawks have to wait on Guerra

Hawthorn defender Brent Guerra must wait to learn the full extent of the hamstring injury that threatens his AFL finals campaign.

Guerra had a scan on Saturday morning after his injury in the last term of the previous night’s win over West Coast at the MCG.

The win meant the Hawks won their first minor premiership since 1989 and confirmed them as strong premiership favourites.

But there was speculation that Guerra will play no role in the finals because of his injury.

Hawks football manager Mark Evans said there was significant bleeding in the hamstring and that will have to settle before they can make a proper diagnosis.

“There’s quite a bit of bleeding and that has to settle, we probably need 48-72 hours,” Evans said.

But Evans acknowledged it is a serious hamstring strain, saying “he has his work cut out”.

It has been a bad week for Guerra – on Monday, he tweeted that someone had stolen his 2008 premiership medal.
