Hawthorn AFL star Lance Franklin has lost his driver’s licence for six months after being caught speeding.
Franklin was intercepted driving at 90kph in a 50kph zone in bayside Brighton early on Thursday afternoon.
The injured forward was reportedly fined $599 and hit with six demerit points for the offence.
Hawthorn football manager Mark Evans said Franklin had told the club he had been caught speeding.
“He was detected speeding yesterday afternoon in a suburban street more than 30km over the limit,” Evans said at training on Friday, which Franklin attended.
“He’s been told that he’s got 28 days … and he’ll receive a notice to say that he can’t drive from there, and he copped a fine.”
Evans said Hawthorn had internal processes they would follow early next week but didn’t want to pre-empt any kind of penalty.
“Those processes will involve the leadership group and management at the club,” he said.
“We’ll address it pretty quickly … it might be that we keep that to ourselves.”
Franklin will miss their big clash with fellow high-fliers Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday afternoon with a hamstring injury.
