Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughead expects the match review panel to clear his Sydney ruck opponent Shane Mumford for the AFL grand final.

Mumford faces scrutiny for an unusual incident during Friday night’s preliminary final win over Collingwood at the SCG.

But Roughead was unfussed about the matter.

When it was suggested on Channel Seven’s Game Day that Mumford should be available for the grand final, Roughead replied: “I didn’t think he wouldn’t be – from all reports, it doesn’t sound like much.

The incident was not caught on the match telecast, but Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show showed behind-the-goals footage of Mumford jostling with Chris Dawes on the goal-line.

Suddenly, Dawes breaks away, goes straight to the nearest field umpire and is clearly animated.

Dawes had suffered a knee injury the week before in the semi-final win over West Coast and played with the joint strapped heavily.

The inference is that Dawes reacted when Mumford tried to bump his hurt knee.

The camera angle does not clearly show any leg-to-leg contact between the two players.

Sydney officials were surprised on Saturday when media organisations informed them of the potential for a charge against Mumford.
