Greater Western Sydney are waiting to see if there will be any fallout from an alleged sledge by defender Heath Shaw and a report on forward Toby Greene ahead of their historic date with premiers Western Bulldogs.
All-Australian half forward Greene was placed on report for rough conduct after a first-quarter incident involving Sydney’s Isaac Heeney at the SCG on Saturday, while veteran back Shaw was reportedly picked up on an umpires’ microphone calling Swans forward Tom Papley a “a f***ing retard.”
The incidents were unable to take the gloss of the Giants’ 42-point win, however, as they bounced back from conceding the first four goals to notch their first victory at the SCG.
It remains to be seen whether either Greene or Shaw are in any danger of missing Friday’s clash with the Bulldogs in Canberra.
“I don’t know the level of detail, so we’ll use the next 24 hours to have a really good discussion about actually what happened,” Giants coach Leon Cameron said.
“We’ll have a discussion with the people involved and see where that leads to”.
Cameron didn’t know about the report on Greene until he was told about it at the post-match press conference.
“We’ll look at it, see whether it was right or wrong and then you deal with it, thats all you can do,” he said.
The Giants and Bulldogs both head into their first clash since last year’s epic preliminary final game boasting 4-1 records.
“I still rate them as the best team in the competition, they are going to be really hard to beat,” Cameron said.
“We’re starting to have some great games against them and that rivalry is building which is fantastic for footy.
“Two exciting young teams going toe to toe and it’s a good opportunity to play Friday night footy.
“For us, it’s been five and a bit years for us to wait for this opportunity to display what our club is about on (a) Friday night.”
