GWS relegate Brogan to emergency

Greater Western Sydney have relegated veteran ruckman Dean Brogan to an emergency for Sunday’s round-two AFL clash with North Melbourne in Hobart. The 33-year-old Port Adelaide premiership player, who has recovered from a back complaint, was named in the Giants’ 25-man squad but has been left out of the final 22-man lineup. Six-million-dollar midfielder Tom Scully will make his debut for the league’s newest club while ex-Lion Luke Power is the other inclusion to the side which lost to Sydney in round one. Rugby league recruit Israel Folau is named at full-forward and is expected to act as back-up in the ruck to Jonathan Giles. Former Melbourne captain James McDonald is suspended while Adam Tomlinson has been dropped. North Melbourne, who also began the season with a loss against Essendon, have left out defender Robbie Tarrant because of a hamstring injury. Geelong Falcons product Cameron Delaney, 19, will make his debut. St Kilda have dumped Farren Ray and Brett Peake for their match against Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Peake was not included in Thursday’s 25-man squad which was trimmed to 22 on Friday with Ray, Beau Wilkes and Nick Winmar relegated to emergencies from the original extended bench of seven. Following their shock loss to Port Adelaide in round one, the Saints have made three changes. Ray, Peake and Dean Polo (suspended) have been replaced by Tom Simpkin, Tom Ledger and debutant Jack Newnes, 19, from Northern Knights. Gold Coast, who lost to Adelaide last week, have recalled Maverick Weller, Trent McKenzie and Matt Shaw. Seb Tape (teeth) and Daniel Gorringe (Achilles) are on the injured list while Sam Iles has been dropped.
