GWS Giants vs Western Bulldogs Preview

A chilly night in Canberra awaits on Saturday with temperatures likely to get down as low as three degrees.

On the back of a stunning last-second win over the Swans last week, the Giants will be looking to turn the furnace up on one of their lesser rivals, the Bulldogs, in a game that could hold serious top eight implications.

Toby Greene was the hero in a dramatic ‘Battle of the Bridge’ contest, not that Bulldog fans need any reminding of how dangerous the crafty forward can be.

Greene kicked seven on the Dogs in Round 22 last year, but Luke Beveridge’s men have enjoyed the spoils of this fixture in recent years winning each of the last four meetings.

The Dogs have corrected a few of their glaring issues that stood out in early losses to Melbourne and St Kilda, but they still struggle to impact the scoreboard when it matters most.

Likewise, the Giants have also struggled to find goals at times this year, but where they’ve hurt teams is on the rebound.

GWS ranks first in rebound 50s per-game, a serious concern for a Dogs team that has had issues with turnover this year.

Looking at their recent form, you could argue the Giants are the more battle-tested side right now coming off games against Brisbane and Sydney, but that said, the Dogs had an equally tough start to the year.

The Bulldogs have been a much-improved team around the clearances in recent weeks, but this is a game I’d prefer to steer clear of in the head-to-head market.

The Giants have given up 80+ points to their last four opponents at Manuka Oval, so the Over on the Dogs looks like the best play.
