GWS AFL player on assault charges; report

GWS Giants midfielder Toby Greene has reportedly been charged with several assault-based offences following a nightclub incident in Melbourne on Monday night.

While Victoria Police would not confirm the identity of the 20-year-old man from Rozelle, NSW who had been charged, Fairfax Radio identified him as Greene.

Police laid charges of assault by kicking, assault with a weapon, assault in company, intentionally causing serious injury and unlawful assault on the 20-year-old.

A 19-year-old teenager from Malvern was also charged with similar offences.

The Giants have the bye this weekend and gave their players leave following their heavy loss to West Coast in Perth on Sunday night.

The two men charged have been bailed to appear in Melbourne’s Magistrates Court on September 25.

Greene has played 45 matches for the Giants since being selected with pick 11 in the 2011 draft.

He won the Giants’ best first-year player award in their foundation season in 2012.
