Reborn Collingwood forward Tyson Goldsack has been rewarded for his best AFL season with a two-year contract extension.

Goldsack, 25, booted 24 goals in 22 matches – most as a defensive forward – in 2012.

“In terms of broadening his game and establishing himself as a player capable of playing a variety of roles, it was a really good season for Tyson,” said Collingwood’s director of football Geoff Walsh.

“He now lends so much flexibility to the team and we think there is more, in terms of a more prominent role, to come.

“We’re very happy to have him with us for another two seasons at least.”

Goldsack was a member of Collingwood’s 2010 premiership team, having replaced Leon Davis, who was dropped after the drawn decider against St Kilda a week earlier.

He has now played 91 games for the club.

“Obviously, it’s nice to know where I’ll be and be settled,” Goldsack said in a statement.

“I think the team has a real opportunity to succeed over the next couple of years and to share in that is something I’m grateful for.”

Collingwood have also re-signed key forward Travis Cloke and running defender Harry O’Brien since the end of the 2012 season.

The Magpies were beaten in a preliminary final by eventual premiers Sydney.
