Gold Coast set for AFL Women’s grand final

History will be made on the Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon when the inaugural AFL Women’s grand final is contested between Brisbane and Adelaide.

The Queensland Government has confirmed all public transport will be free, in a bid to encourage Lions fans to travel from Brisbane to the Gold Coast for the match.

The undefeated Lions take on the Crows as part of a football double-header.

The AFL’s round one clash between Brisbane and the Gold Coast will be held at the same venue from 7.05pm AEST.

The women’s match starts at 1pm AEST with free entry for fans.

Megan Washington will provide pre-match entertainment and sing the national anthem for the grand final.

With close ties to the city after having spent her high school years in Brisbane, Ms Washington said she was excited and honoured to be asked to perform.

“It’s a historic day for the entire Australian sporting community,” she said.

“The 2017 season has been an enormous success, and it’s been inspiring to witness such a high level of community support for the women’s competition.”

Gates open for the match at 11.30am AEST.
