Gold Coast’s Aaron Hall, who has joined North Melbourne in an AFL trade, admits a desire to play finals led to him becoming the latest Sun to seek greener pastures.
The Kangaroos acquired Hall for a bargain price, offloading pick No.68 to complete the deal on Tuesday morning.
The midfielder played six games for the Suns in an injury-cursed 2018 but was one of their best players in the previous two seasons, polling 11 Brownlow votes in 2017 then 10 votes in 2017.
“I have played 100 games and haven’t looked like playing finals and that has been a massive driver for me in this decision,” the 27-year-old said.
“Hopefully I can help make them a better team with my attributes.”
North football manager Cameron Joyce is confident Hall will return to his career-best form.
“At his best, he can mix it with some of the best midfielders in the competition and we know he’ll get back to that level,” Joyce said.
Former Gold Coast captains Tom Lynch and Gary Ablett plus young guns Dion Prestia, Jaeger O’Meara and Charlie Dixon are among the high-profile players to have left the expansion club in recent years.
Suns captain Steven May’s future currently remains up in the air.
North have been among the most active players in trade period, recruiting Hall, Port Adelaide’s Jared Polec and Jasper Pittard, and Melbourne on-baller Dom Tyson.
