Giants’ Kelly earns AFL rising star nod

Greater Western Sydney teenager Josh Kelly has continued his dream AFL debut, earning a Rising Star nomination in his second match.

The 19-year-old kicked two last-quarter goals and had 17 disposals on Saturday as the Giants beat Melbourne by 32 points in wet conditions.

Last year’s No.2 draft pick made an impressive debut against St Kilda in round two, then signed a new contract with the Giants and now has a nomination for the league’s top young player award.

“Josh had a great pre-season and we were really happy with his debut in round two, but he stepped up again this week against Melbourne,” said Giants coach Leon Cameron.

“He’s a very talented young player, but as good as his couple of goals were, his contested possessions and his willingness to tackle has really stood out to the coaches and the playing group.”
