Giants debutant to face AFL hero Harvey

Greater Western Sydney newcomer Caleb Marchbank wasn’t even born when one of his AFL heroes Brent Harvey made his debut, but the Giants’ youngster and North Melbourne supporter will line up this weekend against the Kangaroos’ icon.

Defender Marchbank and midfielder Jack Steele will each make senior debuts for an injury-ravaged GWS team who have lost Shane Mumford, Joel Patfull, Phil Davis and Stephen Coniglio following last weekend’s loss to Collingwood.

Harvey, 37, who will run out for his 396th AFL game this weekend, played his first senior match for the Kangaroos three months before Marchbank was born.

Marchbank was born in Benalla – the same Victorian country town which produced Brisbane star Tom Rockliff, who has already contacted the young Giant to congratulate him on his promotion.
