Giant Williams unlikely for AFL on Sunday

GWS coach Leon Cameron expects his co-captain Phil Davis to play in Sunday’s AFL clash with Melbourne, but says it’s unlikely dashing defender Zac Williams will make his long awaited senior comeback at the MCG.

Cameron revealed key defender Davis had battled with three separate corks since getting injured in last week’s Sydney derby.

“We think he’s going to get there,’ Cameron said

“He had a pretty good day yesterday, he’s pulled up pretty well today and we'[l give him every opportunity to play, but if he’s not close to 95 per cent then we’re not going to play him.”

Williams hasn’t played a senior game this season due to an achilles injury, but made a successful comeback through the NEAFL last week and was named on an extended bench on Thursday.

“The temptation was to bring him in, but … six months is a long time out of footy.

“As much as what I’d love to see him running around the MCG – we may still – but he’s probably more likely to play in the NEAFL.

“It’s a more conservative approach. If it had have been two or three months, definitely. I reckon it would have been a no-brainer.”

Cameron confirmed classy midfielder Josh Kelly and utility Sam Reid would both play against the Demons
