Preview:

The Cats play the Bulldogs in the last game of Round 16, Sunday, 4.40PM at Simonds Stadium.  Geelong should be able to win here without too much trouble, with the Cats coming off a win against Essendon last round at Etihad Stadium.  Saying that, however, the Bulldogs are also coming off a win last week against Melbourne, and did show some promise during that game.  The Cats probably have more to play for in this clash, however, with Geelong only outside the top four on percentages and needing a win here if they want to end their season with a double chance.

News:

Daniel Jackson has put his hand up to return to Richmond’s AFL side after coming through a VFL challenge.

Richmond’s 2013 best and fairest has endured a tough season, with a hip injury sidelining him for the last month.

He made a return to football in Richmond’s VFL side on Saturday in Morwell, a Collingwood-initiated regional fixture.

An impressive first half against the Magpies should be enough to return Jackson to the senior side – though the four-hour return bus ride nearly provided another setback.

Jackson joked that his back cramped from the trip but after “slugging it out” in Gippsland he was keen to return.

“We didn’t get a win but I got through unscathed,” he said on Monday.

“I battled around to get my kicks but hopefully did enough to get back in (the seniors) this week, although the boys had a good win so it might be tough to squeeze back.

“I’ve pulled up well so just have to make sure I train well, the hip will be fine.”

Jackson’s 21 disposals and eight clearances in the Tigers’ 44-point VFL loss came mainly in the first half.

The loss was at odds with the AFL side, which enjoyed a win by the same margin against St Kilda.

While Richmond’s last month reads one win and four losses, Jackson said they were on the right track.

“It’s been a lot more positive in the way we’ve attacked our footy,” he said.

“We’ve still a lot to do … but we’re going back to what we do best.

“That’s defending manically and attacking the ball as hard as we have in the last 12 months.”

Jackson was speaking alongside young defender Dylan Grimes at the club’s charity partner, The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

Named after two children killed in the Port Arthur massacre, the foundation aims to prevent violence against children.

Jackson said more than a million children were exposed to domestic family violence at home.

“More often than not, they’re the silent victim in domestic violence,” he said.

“The humbling part is hearing the stories… we live in a bit of a bubble at times.”
