Sunday’s AFL 2018 Round 4 match is between Geelong Cats and St Kilda Saints. The opening kick is set to commence at 16:40 local time with the game to be played at GMHBA Stadium. The home team Geelong Cats are the favourites for the match. View our preview and teams for the game between Geelong Cats and St Kilda Saints.

When: 16:40 | Sunday 15/04/2018

Where: GMHBA Stadium

Preview:

The injury to Gary Ablett will hurt the Cats but the injuries to Nakia Cockatoo and Cameron Guthrie will also be extremely costly.
I think this will be a real challenge for Geelong as last week’s game against the Eagles in Perth was physically taxing.
Having said that, they should have enough class to get over the Saints.
The Saints forwards have suffered from a poor delivery from the midfield and the Saints mids will have to step up to give their forwards better service.

KEY BATTLE: Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield v Saints midfield

This game will be won in the midfield and while Geelong are missing Ablett, they still have two of the best in ‘Dangerwood’ which gives them the edge.
The Verdict
Geelong are always strong at home and I’m predicting them to inflict more pain on the hapless Saints.
The Saints have a 4-2 (66.7 percent) O/U record against Geelong since 2012.

AFL News:

Geelong aren’t putting a definitive timeline on Gary Ablett’s AFL return after scans confirmed he has suffered a hamstring strain.

The 33-year-old sustained the injury late in the Cats’ bruising loss to West Coast and, given his age, the club will take a cautious approach with his recovery.

“The scans are as expected and I will be out for a few weeks with a hamstring strain,” Ablett said via a statement released on Tuesday.

“I will do everything I can to rehab the injury and get back out there.

“Obviously it is disappointing to miss playing the next few games with the team, but it is a long season and we are all positive that this will be a minor setback.”

Geelong won’t set an expected return date, understanding that players heal at different rates.

The Cats were left counting the cost of their second loss of the season, with Cam Guthrie (ankle) and Nakia Cockatoo (knee) also injured.

They join important defenders Harry Taylor (foot) and Lachie Henderson (knee) on the sidelines.
