Another loss on Sunday might just bring an end to Essendon’s finals hopes.
With only one win from their last five games, the Dons face another huge test on Sunday against a well-rested Geelong side playing off a bye.
The Cats have been notoriously awful following a week off for the past decade, but in this strange and whacky season, it’s difficult to see them struggling with a Bombers side that still can’t seem to play four solid quarters of footy.
Essendon managed only two goals in the second half on Tuesday night against West Coast in their 15-point loss.
The Dons weren’t disgraced by any stretch, but after such a promising turnaround against Hawthorn, it was a little disappointing to watch Joe Daniher and Jake Stringer fail to kick a goal.
A similar performance against Geelong this week simply won’t fly, and unfortunately for the Bombers, the stats suggest we might be in for a repeat performance.
The Cats have allowed the second-fewest goals to opponents this year, which largely explains their five-game winning streak.
With Geelong well-rested and looking to remain in the top four, this one could turn out a little one sided.
