After another stunning best on ground performance Gary Ablett has firmed into a $1.50 favourite to win this year’s Brownlow Medal – the shortest price any player has been at this stage of the season.
“No player in the history of Brownlow betting at Centrebet has been as short as $1.50 to win after round 17,” Centrebet’s Michael Felgate said.
“It’s hard to believe that with 6 rounds still to go a player could be so far in front, but as we saw on Saturday Ablett is a freak,”
A $10 chance at the start of the season, Ablett has been well backed all year. After a match-winning 49-possession, two-goal game against Collingwood on Saturday Ablett’s Brownlow odds again firmed from $1.90 into $1.50.
“Our analysts have Ablett at least seven votes clear at this stage and going on his form $1.50 could be value for punters,” Felgate said.
Centrebet has also opened a market on the number of Brownlow votes Ablett will poll this year.
“Dane Swan holds the record for the most Brownlow votes with 34 in 2011 and we have Ablett $7 to do the same. If you think Ablett will smash the record you can get $11 for him to hit the magical 40 votes or more.”
