Gary Ablett says his knee’s okay

Gold Coast AFL superstar Gary Ablett says his knee is sore and stiff, but structurally sound.

Ablett injured his knee late in Gold Coast’s big loss to Brisbane on Saturday night as Lions tagger Andrew Raines collided with him.

But fears of a serious injury have been allayed by both Ablett and the Suns, with coach Guy McKenna immediately playing down the problem post-match.

So too did Ablett on Sunday, taking to Twitter to say: “The knee is stiff and sore, but the doc reckons structurally it’s fine.”

The Suns are likely to send Ablett for scans on Monday, but they remain confident he can play in their next match against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

But the news may not be as good for another experienced Sun, Jarrod Harbrow.

The defender dislocated his elbow in the second quarter and was subbed off, and could miss up to two months if scans show the extensive ligament damage expected.

Adelaide midfielder Bernie Vince could miss up to four weeks with a broken hand sustained in the win over Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

Port Adelaide forward Robbie Gray’s season is over after his sickening knee injury in the Power’s 24-point loss to Collingwood at Etihad Stadium.

Port say Gray has a suspected tear to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee which would require a knee reconstruction.

The club will send him for scans on Monday to determine the extent of the damage but have already conceded his season appears over.

Carlton midfielder Andrew Carrazzo will have surgery on Monday to repair his shoulder broken in the Blues’ shock loss to Essendon at the MCG on Saturday.

Carrazzo was tackled heavily by Bombers midfielder Sam Lonergan and broke his right shoulder blade, with the club saying he will miss between six and eight weeks.

The 28-year-old has been outstanding so far this season, shutting out Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury last week.

His injury robbed the Blues of the most obvious run-with player to combat Essendon’s Jobe Watson, who went on to have a day out in the Bombers’ 30-point win.

Carlton’s Marc Murphy said it was up to the rest of the team’s midfield to step up and cover Carrazzo’s loss for a substantial portion of the year.

“We have players like David Ellard who could come in, but it’s up to everyone to fill that role for us,” Murphy told the Seven Network’s Game Day program.

West Coast midfielder Luke Shuey is also set for scans on an injured AC joint after colliding heavily with Hawthorn’s Clinton Young in the Eagles’ win in Perth on Saturday night.

Shuey returned to play out the match, despite being collected heavily again on his sore spot by Hawk Jordan Lewis.

“Generally, if they can play out a game, that’s the best indicator,” Eagles coach John Worsfold said.

“We’ll still do all the precautionary work of scans to make sure we know what the issue is.”
