Star Fremantle midfielder Nathan Fyfe and Geelong onballer Taylor Hunt have fallen foul of the AFL’s crackdown on head-high contact.
Fyfe is out for two matches and Hunt can accept a one-game ban after the match review panel charged them with rough conduct.
Fremantle could be the first team to go to the tribunal this year ahead of Friday night’s grand final rematch against Hawthorn.
Zac Dawson was also suspended for one match on a tripping charge and Fremantle will risk nothing by trying to clear their two players.
Fyfe and Dawson have tribunal priors, meaning they can’t reduce their penalties by taking early pleas.
If the Dockers decide on Tuesday morning to challenge the Fyfe and Dawson cases, the hearing will go ahead in the late afternoon.
Under new AFL guidelines, if there is a clash of heads in a contest then the player who initiates the contact can be charged with rough conduct.
Gold Coast’s Michael Rischitelli had to leave the ground with a cut head after Fyfe bumped him.
Hunt’s shepherd also caught Brisbane onballer Daniel Rich high.
Hunt received the same two-game suspension as Fyfe, but can reduce his penalty to one game with an early plea.
Carlton key position player Jarrad Waite was also reprimanded on Monday for the rare offence of staging, but Richmond small forward Jake King also received a misconduct fine for his role in the same incident.
King kicked out and caught Waite in the chest during last Thursday night’s match at the MCG.
But Waite reacted as though he had been kicked in the mouth.
King was also fined $1200 for misconduct, with the penalty reduced to $800 if he doesn’t contest the charge.
