Fremantle’s McPharlin to contest AFL ban

Fremantle defender Luke McPharlin will contest a charge of making a forceful front-on bump on West Coast’s Jack Darling at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

McPharlin could have accepted a 125-point penalty and a one-match ban by pleading guilty.

He now risks a 137.50-point penalty but will still be suspended for just one game if he fails to beat the level-one charge.

Ninth-placed Fremantle (11-7), who trail eighth-placed Essendon by less than one per cent with four rounds remaining, face second-placed Adelaide at AAMI Park on Saturday.

Hawthorn’s Liam Shiels has accepted a one-game ban for elbowing Geelong’s Allen Christensen.
