Fremantle Dockers vs Hawthorn Hawks Preview
It’s not the most exciting Saturday night matchup of the season, but from a betting perspective, it could be the toughest game to pick this week.
The Dockers remain the most disappointing team in season 2023, currently sitting 14th at 2-5 and almost no chance of playing finals.
Hawthorn, meanwhile, might still win the wooden spoon, but Sam Mitchell continues to draw praise for his against the grain coaching strategies that have given real glimpses into the future at the Hawks.
Mitch Lewis’ inclusion was huge last week in the loss to the Dogs, the star forward kicking only 1.4, but showing plenty of dominance and promise against one of the best defenders in the competition, Liam Jones.
The Hawks actually led the Dogs at half-time before pulling their usual no-show third quarter trick on the way to a disappointing 29-point loss.
Flat periods of footy are to be expected from this young side, which makes this week’s trip to Perth all the more interesting.
Looking at the Dockers, Freo still remains a stout defensive outfit, but they currently rank 12th in points-per-game and 14th in inside 50s.
Sometimes a trip West can do wonders for the confidence of a young side, so if the Hawks are up and about up forward, they should go very close to a win again.
