Folau cleared for AFL debut

Star rugby league convert Israel Folau is clear to play in Greater Western Sydney’s AFL debut on Saturday night against the Sydney Swans.

The match review panel cleared him on Monday of two rough conduct charges.

Folau was reported twice during Saturday’s pre-season game against Richmond in Canberra for incidents involving Tigers midfielders Brett Deledio and Daniel Jackson.

A league spokesman said neither incident had the force required to justify a report.

The AFL enticed Folau to switch codes with a deal worth more than $1 million and it would have been a public relations disaster had he been suspended for the Giants’ debut at ANZ Stadium against Sydney.
