Two more greats will be inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday, following in the footsteps of Brisbane heroes Jonathan Brown and Simon Black.

The Lions duo on Tuesday joined former St Kilda champion Lenny Hayes as 2020 inductees, while Hawthorn coaching icon John Kennedy was elevated to Legend status.

Brown and Black were integral members of Brisbane’s famous premiership three-peat under Leigh Matthews, helping cement that Lions team as one of the greatest the game has seen.

It was fitting the pair were inducted on the same night.

“I had a very special chemistry with Blacky,” Brown said.

“Whenever I’d see him circle around the pack or come out of a pack with that looping left-foot arc, my eyes were like dinner plates.”

Before retiring in 2013, Black became the first player of the AFL era to play 300 games and win both premiership and Brownlow medals.

He also claimed a Norm Smith Medal for his devastating 39-possession display in the 2003 grand final thumping of Collingwood.

“That was, for me, one of the special performances,” Brown said.

“He dominated from the get-go. 39 disposals, clearly best-on-ground. I reckon when you put your head on the pillow at night that would be enough to get you off to sleep.

“The judges could’ve put the votes in at half-time.”

Brown said Black was still underrated, though his new status as a Hall of Fame member would challenge that description.

“He’ll go down as one of the genuine greats of the game,” Brown said.

“Great gets thrown around too often, but he is a genuine great, and he’s one of the most humble blokes you’ll ever meet.

“It’s such a joy to say he’s a great friend.”

Four more members will be inducted into the Hall of Fame from June 3 to 4 with the newest additions to be announced on Fox Footy.
