An Essendon fan is in double trouble after he managed the rare feat of invading the pitch twice during the one AFL game.
During the last term of Sunday’s 53-point loss to West Coast, the spectator ran onto the field at Etihad Stadium and security staff soon tackled him to the ground.
That should have been the end of his distraction, only he reappeared on another part of the ground a few minutes later.
He somehow broke clear of security staff as they were taking him to Victoria Police and the fan ran onto the field again from a different ramp.
Fans face heavy fines for running onto the ground during an AFL match.
It gave Essendon coach James Hird a rare chance to chuckle when he was asked about the incidents in his post-match media conference.
“It’s the least of our worries at the moment – this pitch invader,” Hird said.
“It’s not good, you don’t want people on the ground and the players – you don’t want to put them in danger.
“It would be good if it didn’t happen, but it has and I think the security dealt with it pretty well.”
