Adelaide speedster Charlie Cameron has requested a trade to Brisbane on compassionate grounds.

The Crows have been saying little on speculation about Cameron’s future, but his manager Colin Young has confirmed his client had told the club on Thursday he wants to leave.

“There are compassionate reasons why Charlie has asked to go back to Brisbane,” Young told AFL trade radio.

“It’s where he grew up and it’s where his family and friends are.

“He feels that there’s more to life than playing football. He wants to live in Brisbane and play footy in Brisbane. Family and friends are No.1 for him and that’s where he feels most comfortable living.

“That will certainly assist his football.”

But with star defender Jake Lever also requesting a trade, the Crows will be loathe to part with Cameron, who is contracted for next season.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a good season, kicking 29 goals with his pace off a wing a key to his side’s run to the grand final.

But it was a different story off the field, despite his close ties to teammate Eddie Betts.

“In Charlie’s own words, he didn’t have the greatest of years – he didn’t feel comfortable living in Adelaide,” Young said.

“Once he played in Brisbane early on in the year – and he had a fairly good game – he caught up with family and friends and it just reinforced that that’s where he wants to live on a day-to-day basis.”

Cameron had 18 possessions and kicked four goals in a round-nine win over the Lions at the Gabba.

Young is hopeful Adelaide will help facilitate a trade which, in turn, could allow the Crows to land Carlton star Bryce Gibbs.
