Essendon deny they have settled on John Worsfold as their new AFL senior coach.
The Bombers insist the 2006 West Coast premiership coach remains part of a selection process that is understood to also involve Collingwood assistant Scott Burns and former Western Bulldogs mentor Brendan McCartney.
The AFL website published a story earlier on Thursday saying Essendon would confirm Worsfold as their new coach in coming days.
That prompted a reply on Essendon’s twitter feed.
“The selection process is ongoing and a decision on the next senior coach has not been made,” the club said.
A fortnight ago, Essendon also denied widespread media reports they had offered Worsfold a five-year deal.
A week later, Worsfold confirmed he wanted to coach Essendon.
Worsfold left West Coast in late 2013 and he was Adelaide’s temporary football director after the July 3 death of Crows coach Phil Walsh.
