There are more than just bragging rights on the line in the annual Dreamtime at the ‘G game on Saturday night.

Essendon’s time in the top-eight spotlight was short-lived, the Dons sliding all the way down to 10th on the ladder on the back of a fourth consecutive loss to the Lions last week.

Chris Scott has to be encouraged with the defensive effort in the first half, but the Bombers made life hard for themselves with just eight marks from a measly 38 inside 50 entries.

The Tigers, on the other hand, feasted off turnover against Geelong, recording perhaps the upset of the round last Friday night.

Richmond led for most of the game, Damien Hardwick’s side applying enormous pressure to outmuscle the reigning premier and beat them at their own game.

Looking ahead, the Tigers have enjoyed the better of this fixture winning 13 in a row over the Bombers dating all the way back to 2014.

Neither of the two clashes last year were close, and although the Bombers’ young list has plenty of upside, they remain a very inconsistent team from week to week.

Turning the ball over was a huge issue for Essendon last week, and while most of that is a credit to the Lions, it’s a recipe for disaster against a Tigers team that can hurt you in transition.

The Bombers should be more efficient in front of goal, but with Richmond among the best at getting the ball inside 50 and keeping it there, the Tigers might just keep their season alive.
