Preview:

Round 11 of the AFL kicks off this weekend, with a number of interesting games to watch out for. The Friday night game between Essendon and Carlton will be one of the best, 7.50pm at the MCG. These sides really don’t like each other, with fireworks almost a certainty for this encounter. The Blues have won six of their last seven matches, and with Chris Judd and Mick Malthouse returning for this match, they could easily make it seven from eight. The Bombers will have plenty to say about that, however, with their big forwards continuing to look dangerous. Look out for a hard fought game in what could be a nail biter.

AFL’s Bombers continue Daniher tradition

Essendon’s Joe Daniher will become the sixth member of his family to represent the Bombers when he makes his AFL debut against Carlton on Friday night.

The 19-year-old tall forward is one of four inclusions for the Bombers, with Michael Hurley, Ben Howlett and Alwyn Davey all back from injury.

The 201cm father-son draftee will join his dad Anthony, uncles Terry, Neale and Chris and brother Darcy as Danihers to have played at the top level with the Bombers.

Carlton have regained former skipper Chris Judd from a minor hamstring complaint and small forward Eddie Betts from suspension.

Collingwood regain star forward Travis Cloke for Monday’s Queen’s Birthday clash with Melbourne, but have dropped Andrew Krakouer.

Colin Sylvia returns from suspension for the Demons, who have lost defender James Frawley to a hamstring injury.

Sydney will be without speedster Lewis Jetta (shin soreness) and key position player Tommy Walsh, who is out for the rest of the season with a severe hamstring injury, for Saturday’s meeting with Adelaide.

They’ve included Brandon Jack, brother of co-captain Kieren, for his AFL debut.

North Melbourne’s Sudanese big man Majak Daw has won a recall for Saturday night’s encounter with Gold Coast, who have lost Brandon Matera to an ankle injury but regained big forward Charlie Dixon.

St Kilda will be without star defender Sam Fisher (foot) for Sunday’s meeting with West Coast, who have lost captain Darren Glass (hip) and forward Mark LeCras (arm).

Geelong are resting swingman Harry Taylor and athletic recruit Mark Blicavs and have regained James Podsiadly among five changes for Saturday’s match against winless Greater Western Sydney.
